About The Book
The Outsiders is a coming of age story written by S.E Hinton through the eyes of a 14 year old greaser ( a hood or thug in 1900's New York) named Ponyboy. Ponyboy, who lives with his two brothers, Darry and Sodapop as well as his "gang" goes on an unforgettable journey with his friend Johnny that completely changes their world as they know it.
The Socs and the Greasers are two conflicting rival gangs who are as polar as water, as intolerable as cats and dogs, complete opposites. The Socs, the rich, wealthy privileged teens, the Greasers the dirty hoodlums. Though the tension between the two groups has been existent for a while, one night the rivarly goes too far and blood is spilled, causing Ponyboy and his friend to go on the run. On the run, with no one but each other and little to no assistance, the boys learn about life, loss, heroism and emerge changed, older, and matured.
